Before there was the Desperation Squad, there was Nixons Revenge. Formed in 1980, Nixons Revenge was less a band than a conglomeration of artists, musicians, poets, malcontents and varying other associated hangers-on. No two Nixons Revenge shows had the same line-up and only on the rarest of occasions was a song ever performed more than once.
Nixons Revenge was completely ignored by the bulk of the early 80s Pomona punk scenesters, save for an enterprising and sympathetic supporter named Art DiLeon, who provided his rented room on 2nd St. in Pomona, called Arts Building, for several live shows. Despite the relative indifference of music fans at the time the Nixons Revenge influence continues to reverberate today. Anyone who has seen Desperation Squad and grooved to such songs as "Homo" "No Pussy Tonight" "Your Girlfriends Ugly" "True Bitch" "That Thing" and countless others are savoring creative ideas, only just barely crafted into songs, that were first performed by Nixons Revenge in the period from 1980-1983.
Though much has been said or implied about Nixons Revenge, very little has been seen. Recently a number of never before seen Nixons Revenge photos have surfaced and we proudly bring you a glimpse into our storied past. Thanks to Darlene Waddington for uncovering these gems!
